I saw The Mousetrap this afternoon. Hats off to the clear and bright performances, and yes, I did smile at the unexpected plot twist, which of course I am not allowed to share…. I feel a slight failure, in that Agatha Christie has never attracted me as a writer as much, say, as Daphne du Maurier, Kate Atkinson, Helen Dunmore, and dozens of others. But still – she became the most universally read writer ever, and I certainly appreciated her playwriting talent…..I particularly enjoyed the fact that being written in the nineteen fifties, the play could allow its characters to have, now and then, what I can only call `real conversations.` Lovely.
